Hi everyone,
I came across a description in a Mendix learning path that outlines the Scrum events as follows:
It also mentions Product Backlog Refinement as a non-official Scrum event that happens before the listed events. I’d like to suggest that this might be a slight misunderstanding of how Product Backlog Refinement fits into the Scrum framework.
In Scrum, Product Backlog Refinement (or backlog grooming) is indeed an ongoing, continuous activity rather than a distinct event. It’s crucial for maintaining a well-prepared backlog and ensuring that user stories are ready for future sprints.
Rather than being a separate event that occurs before the official Scrum events, it’s integrated into the regular workflow to ensure that the team is always equipped with a prioritized and well-defined backlog.
I hope this clarification helps improve our understanding and implementation of Scrum practices. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
Best regards
Nkosi
The five Scrum events (the Sprint, Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, Sprint Retrospective).
Product Backlog Refinement is not part of Scrum events.
