I am about to deploy a project with the new Mendix Cloud setup. I assume that configuring the IIS to actualy allow my users to "find" the application is similar to what I did before, however, THAT server is part of my normal domain. Is there any specifics I should take care off ?

You will get a DNS name in the mendixcloud (for example https://lexvanrooy.mendixcloud.com). So if you like to use a dedicated local URL, you need to configure the DNS server/ Domain Controller. Another option is indeed to configure a redirect in IIS. As far as i know there are no special characteristics to take care off.
