Is it an option to allow us mere mortals to upload an avatar to the forum (preferable a picture) so that next time I meet people I could possibly recognize them ??

You can upload an avatar to your MxID profile and it will automatically be used on the Forum as well.
You can edit your profile by clicking your loginname in the topbar.
