Invoke the side menu bar after selecting a row in the data grid

Experts, I have my home page wherein an Asset dashboard is displayed. My requirement is that, I should be able to select a specific row (Asset) in that grid and invoke a side bar menu item. It is something like listen to widget kind of a thing. The side menu bar will take the selected asset (entity) and open up a new page to provide further details of that asset. How can I achieve this?
