Unable to login to application after mapping a new custom attribute from AD to LDAP

Hi, I am mapping country information from AD to ldap using custom attribute mapping. The mapping is successful but newly created users who do not have a country assigned in AD are getting a message saying invalid username and password and user that have country are able to login. I have not made the country a mandatory field and have checked the code and LDAP settings in MxAdmin but cannot find anything which may be resulting in this behaviour. Anyone else faced this or may know a solution to this? Thanks.
