Where can we store data in Mendix?

Quick question from a potential client: Where can we store data in Mendix? Can we use other options, not Mendix servers for storing data? Do we need to use some cloud infrastructure or can we store data on bare metal (server in the client premises)? What are the options?

There are a lot of options for deploying a mendix app. Using Mendix cloud is generally the easiest but private cloud is also a option. On-premise is also there with a lot of different configs.
