How does a load-balancer deals with the file location of attachments

Section 4.1.9 of the Mendix white paper confirms that multiple application servers with a load-balancer in front is a supported configuration. I will be interested to hear how this arrangement deals with the file location of attachments.

In a situation with a load balancer you need to put your file directory on a SAN (Storage Area Network) which can be accessed by all Mendix Business Server instances.

I think that the data files need to be mirrored or the file location need to be configured to one server location. No exactly an idea where that is.
