It may occur that users reuse the same search criteria for a datagrid over and over again. Is there a way that enables users to save their search criteria (without having to create heavy application functionality)?

I don't think that's possible. The only thing you could do is setting default values for the search items.

There currently is no way to store user based preferences for search criteria or ui issue's such as column width's or screen layouts.
