How to perform an online antivirus check in a file upload

We want to make sure that uploaded files are virusfree and are looking for a cloud-based solution which can be called by using an API/WebService. Anyone any experience with this. The application runs in the mendix cloud.

I know Virustotal has an API, not sure if it will fit your use-case though.
