Is it possible to create an XML file with Mendix with a (sub)structure like <Body> <Attachment Type="external">ab2.xml</Attachment> </Body> I can use either the attribute or the element but not both.

If you have an xsd that matches, sure.

Well, if you have the string "ab2.xml" you should be able to create such an xml. Simply write a matching xsd and create an export.
