What are deployment options and database options with Mendix? I'm just a new guy learning how to develop apps and plan on building a web based application over the course of the next several months. I currently have a linux server and run a mysql database.

Linux should be fine, we have some documentation on setting that up.
As far as databases are concerned we currently don't support MySQL, but PostgreSQL is available in just about any linux distribution.
