Google Distance Matrix API

Does anybody have some experience with calculating drive distances between two points using this API? The Google Maps Module is easy to set up, but it only shows a location. Getting the recommended route between location A and B would be extremely useful, but I can't get it to work.. Any suggestions?

I did have a project that calculated the road distance and time. But it was only a demo to see if it was feasible. It was then build in version 3 of Mendix. It needs work because I think it can be done simpeler. I could give it to you.
