Excel importer - In a reference, why cant I use Autonumber attributes?

Knowing the (Auto)number of a referenced object, I would like to use that to select the right object, importing through Excel import. To my surprise, I could not select the Autonumber attribute. Why is that?

If you know the number and it is in your current database it should be possible to do that. File a RFC.

In the mean time you can change the excel importer module yourself and enable that in that form. With a little luck the underlying logic will accept this.
