Does an old license continue to work after new license request?

We're in the process of migrating mendix to a new server. I know we need to file a license request for the new server. Will the old one still work until we're done migrating? To be more precise, if for some reason we need to restart the service on the old machine, will we still be able to do so after the license request for the new machine?
