I am researching the database replication module. I understand that you can sync data from an external database into Mendix (one way). But what is the proper strategy if you want to update a record in the external database? Thanks for the advice.

The database replication module is only replicating from database into Mendix. Best way is to make the external database available/updatable via a web service.
