WHEN IS AN OVER-THE-AIR-UPDATE INTALLED ON THE SMARTPHONE?

We recently went into production with a new APP. It is working fine but we still make some (well-tested) OVER-THE-AIR-UPDATES.    Is it correct that this code is only activated when the user LOGs ON/OFF from the application?   In this case (as we have over 30 users - located across the country) is it possible to force a log-out, so that the needs to log-in again, and thus gets the updated code?   Thanks a lot for any help.

The OTA updates will be served when the user opens the app after it has been closed. No need to sign out.
