Teamcenter API cycle through Assembly structure and change part numbers

Currently, I have an application in Mendix, which calls parts from TC and create new part number/ copy within the application (using TC connector module) and saves it back to TC. Similarly, I'm looking to call an assembly from TC and iterate through the components in assembly structure and update part numbers (create new IDs) as required using Teamcenter connector module (API) and save it back to TC. Can you provide guidance on how to go about this?
