SIMATIC S7 Connector Release 2.2.1

We are happy to announce that we will be releasing 2.2.1 version of SIMATIC S7 Connector on 26th August 2024

What’s new in SIMATIC S7 Connector 2.2.1 version:

• Security enhancements by enabling strict check of certificate.
• Optimized memory handling to improve app stability and reliability (resolved the known issue of S7 Connector stop after 4 weeks of continuous run when used with 20 connections).

 

When you want to have secure communication with PLC, then it needs to be configured explicitly in SIMATIC S7 Connector with the required certificates.

1. If PLC is configured with self-signed certificate, then the self-signed certificate for the end-entity in the SIMATIC S7 Configurator.
2. If PLC is configured with CA-signed certificate, then root certificate and the CA-signed end-entity certificates in the SIMATIC S7 Configurator.

 

The update to version 2.2.1 will work without any issues if you have used unsecure communication or secured communication with CA signed certificates in your current configuration.

 

In case you are using only secured communication in PLC with self-signed TLS certificates  and not configured the certificate under Optimized S7 Connection, then after the update to version 2.2.1 the connection to the PLC will fail and data will not be published. 

To resolve that you need to configure the certificate in the configurator and deploy the project again, in order to establish the secure connection to the PLC and get the data.
