Dear Community,   One of the customer is asking for a robot connector app for KUKA robots.  As there is not any robot connector app on DEX, I want to know Is there any ongoing project or plan for it?   Thanks in advance.

Hi Fatih,

As an Industrial Edge Ecosystem, we are also working on solutions for robot connectivity, driven in particular by our automotive customers.

At KUKA, this is hugely dependent on the robot itself. You should share content with me by e-mail. On the one hand, we have an internal approach as Siemens called Robot Library and valueable Solution Integrator with deep knowledge on Robots like KUKA. Clear target is to get an App into our Industrial Edge Marketplace. Therefore I need customer requirements & use cases to work with partners on approriate Industrial Edge Solutions.

Kind regards

Hi Fatih,

what do you (your customer wants to do?  You need the machine data from the iiQoT platform (KUKA iiQoT ) to provide maintanence control or you want to define automation movements (tell the robo what to do). Kuka provides a wide range of software platforms to do so.

If Mendix can do this? In general Maia (Mendix embedded AI) says:

  1. Check if the IoT platform or device offers an API for data exchange. Many popular IoT platforms provide REST APIs, Webhooks, or MQTT protocol support.
  2. Implement the API in Mendix using the appropriate integration methods. Some common ways include: a. Creating custom Java actions or JavaScript snipplets to handle API calls. b. Using pre-built connectors or third-party libraries, such as the Mendix Lambda Connector or Mendix REST Action.

So by today If the platforms can speak by webhook, REST or MQTT there are tools onboard. If not check out the marketplace.

Timo

Hello Timo,

Thanks for the answer. Customer needs machine data. But directly from the machine itself. They are asking possility to get this data to edge devie without using apps like KUKA Device Connector.
