Direct URLs or Deeplink and hybrid applications

If a device (phone or tablet) has a hybrid application installed, is there functionality to open a deeplink or direct url in the hybrid app, rather than launching a browser session?

You need to add a plugin to your hybrid app, and make use of deeplinks to open the url.
