Security & Privacy of data when synchronizing from offline

When Mendix synchronizes after data is entered into an app in offline mode, how is the security and privacy of the data maintained. As a use case, if data contains customer credit card details how much safer is the synchronization process than sending the same data via an email. How does Mendix prevent this data from being intercepted by an unauthorized third party?
