Using QR code and Mendix mobile App to preview - possible when on VPN?

With Mendix on premiss and Mendix Studio Pro running locally using VPN I can not seem to get an app preview on my mobile (with Mendix Mobile App). Probably unless I let my mobile connect to this same VPN as well. Is there another workaround?
