DataGrid2 – Avoid Column Movement When Selecting Filter Input Text

Hi everyone,

 

I've encountered a UX issue with the DataGrid2 widget in Mendix.

When using column filters, if I type some text into a filter field and then try to select part of that text with the mouse (e.g., to copy or replace it), the entire column starts to drag instead of the text being selected. This behavior is quite confusing and seems unintended, as it makes it difficult to interact normally with filter inputs.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open a page with a DataGrid2.

2. Use a column filter (e.g., a text input).

3. Type something into the filter field.

4. Try to select part of the text using the mouse – especially when dragging slightly up/down.

Expected behavior:

• The text inside the input field should be selected normally.

• Column dragging should not be triggered when interacting with a filter input.

Actual behavior:

• The column starts moving as if I'm trying to reorder it, even though I'm just trying to select text in the filter.

 

It would be great if this could be addressed in a future update, as it significantly impacts usability when working with filters.
