The download file activity currently has the option to 'Show file in the browser instead of downloading, if possible'. When you keep the tab open Mendix will reuse that tab to open the file. Sometimes this is wanted behavior, sometimes it is not. My suggestion is to give the developer the option to specify whether you want the file to be opened in a new tab or not.
