Hello,
As someone who is attempting to understand Mendix for the third time, coming from other low code technologies (OutSystems, etc), as well as traditional coding, I have to say: the tutorials in the academy use old, outdated layouts of the editor, many times following the steps is damn near impossible as it tells you to do things which are just impossible to do.
I'll give an example:
https://academy.mendix.com/link/modules/315/lectures/2402/6.6.3-Editing-the-Associated-Account-Entity
This is what I see when I double click the User Role combobox widget:
I see that Caption can be changed from ModelGUID to Name, but the tutorial clearly talks about changing the Data source.
This is not the first time I've come across these very misleading, confusing, and frustrating tutorial instructions, just the one that broke the camel's back.
Would anyone be able to tell me what is it I need to do?
In any case, update your tutorials, please.
Thanks for your reply, Micha. In the meantime, how is it that I change the source for this tutorial part? Did the automatic generation in the new Studio create a different widget than the tutorial expected?
It is true that the new defaults for page creation impact the way you need to look at the learning path if you are not using the exact version suggested in the learning path. The learning paths eg mentioning the selector and now use the combobox can still be completed, but you need to be aware of the differences in how they can be configured. We already have a couple of learning paths supporting different Mx versions, and the number will grow in the future.
Is there any way to configure this new Combo thing to do what the tutorial intends or do I need to restart with studio version 10?
The training material expects you to use the old Selector widget, and you are instead using the new react-friendly ComboBox widget. It's better in every way but leads to confusions like this. Have you confirmed that you're using the same studio pro version as the training material? I could see that being one possible solution.
Hello Mariano, Thank you for your comment. We are aware of the outdated content and are currently working on improving this. We will inform the community on new and updated content when it becomes available. Please understand that updating all material will take some time.
Kind regards,

HI Ahmed,
The exams are aligned with the learning content. Which means that if you study the learning paths covered you should be fine.
There are no questions like 'what is the second option in the file menu', which could change with versions. The concepts are the same in different versions.
Make sure to have hands on experience, because this really helps understanding the concepts.
Hope this helps and good luck preparing for your exam.
Hello Micha,
I'm currently preparing for the Mendix intermediate certification using the official learning paths. Is outdated content — will affect my preparation for the exam?
