The current Academy courses still teach using the Drop-Down and Data Grid (original) widgets. However, in Mendix 10+ with the React Client enabled, these widgets are no longer available in the Toolbox and have been replaced by Combo Box and Data Grid 2, which have different configurations and behavior.
This issue is specifically noticeable in the learning path "Constrain Your Data Using XPath", where the exercises rely on the original Data Grid and Drop-Down widgets. Students following this module step-by-step are unable to replicate the configurations shown, as the widgets either do not appear in the Toolbox or behave differently from what is demonstrated.
This causes confusion and frustration for new developers who are trying to learn XPath constraints, as they get blocked by widget availability issues before even reaching the core concept being taught.
Suggestion: We strongly recommend a full review and update of the entire Academy learning path, from Rapid Developer to Expert Developer level, ensuring all course content, exercises, and demonstrations reflect the current React Client behavior and its compatible widgets. Specific actions include:
Replace all occurrences of Drop-Down with Combo Box
Replace all occurrences of Data Grid (original) with Data Grid 2, including updated configuration steps
Review any other widgets or features that may have been deprecated or replaced in Mendix 10+ with the React Client
Add clear version notes where behavior may differ between Dojo and React clients, until the Dojo client is fully removed in Mendix 12
Keeping the Academy content aligned with the current product experience is essential for onboarding new developers successfully and maintaining the quality and credibility of the Mendix learning platform.
Hi Wallace, thank you for your comment. Some of the learning paths have been updated to Mx 10.24 or even Mx 11 and we are currently updating more content. This takes time since we not just want to update to a more recent version, but at the same time we want to update the curriculum to better support the demand for more up to date capabilities (for example including AI).
Most concepts have not changed. So indeed it might take some flexibility and switching to documentation, MAIA or a peer every now and then, but hopefully you will still be able to complete the learning paths in the current version.
