Hi Fatih,
1 -> Currently it is not possible to migrate/relocate Industrial Edge Device between IEMs. It is functionality we are currently considering but it is not possible at the moment. Stay tuned for future releases.
2 -> There is no limit in terms of licensing how many devices you can have on single IEM Cloud. You can find the details here https://www.dex.siemens.com/edge/get-started/industrial-edge-management-cloud
As a safe starting point you can have 1000 Industrial Edge Devices on single IEM Cloud. If you need more, I recomend to reach out to your local Siemens representative and we can find right configuration for you. As IEM is hosted in the cloud, we can easily add more resources so it is not the bottleneck from technical point of view.
3 -> if you need to extend the storage and bandwidth then please reach out to your local Siemens representative and we will find a solution. Currently we do not offer an extension via Marketplace that you could easily extend these parameters.
4 -> Yes, you need to purchase IED Management license for every device that is onboarded on IEM Cloud. https://www.dex.siemens.com/dex/edge/industrial-edge-marketplace/industrial-edge-device-license
Hope this helps,
Ondrej
For the IEM Cloud migration and scaling questions, I would suggest checking with Siemens/Mendix support for the exact licensing and infrastructure limits, but from an architecture perspective:
1. Migration from IEM Cloud to IEM Virtual
The Edge Device activation is usually tied to the IEM instance and its device registration. Before planning a migration, verify the supported migration path because moving between Cloud and Virtual instances may require re-registration depending on the setup.
I would not assume that devices can be moved without any changes. Confirm the migration procedure with Siemens to avoid any device reset/re-onboarding requirement.
2. Maximum number of Edge Devices
This depends on the IEM Cloud subscription plan and resource allocation. The limit is generally not only based on device count but also on:
3. Storage and traffic scaling
The included storage and bandwidth limits are usually based on the selected IEM Cloud plan. If the customer requires more than:
they should check available upgrade options with Siemens.
4. Industrial Edge Device Management Licenses
This depends on the Edge Device and licensing model. The IEM Cloud plan may cover the management platform, but individual device/app licenses can still apply depending on what is deployed.
For production planning, I would recommend contacting Siemens support/sales with:
so they can confirm the correct IEM Cloud sizing and licensing.
Kindly mark this as the accepted answer if it helps.
