Feature Request: Snowflake Runtime Database Support Across All Mendix Deployment Environments
We would like to request official support for Snowflake as a Mendix runtime database across all supported deployment environments.
Current Challenges
Currently, Mendix requires a supported database for runtime persistence, while Snowflake is accessible through external data integration mechanisms rather than as a runtime database.
For organizations already using Snowflake as their primary enterprise data platform, this creates several challenges:
Maintaining separate databases for Mendix runtime persistence and Snowflake data storage.
Additional complexity in data synchronization and management.
Increased infrastructure and operational costs.
Difficulty establishing Snowflake as a centralized data platform.
Existing integrations, such as the External Database Connector and Snowflake Mendix Data Loader, enable data connectivity but do not allow Snowflake to serve as the Mendix runtime database.
Proposed Solution
We propose adding Snowflake as an officially supported runtime database option across all applicable Mendix deployment environments, including:
Mendix Cloud
Mendix on Kubernetes / Private Cloud
On-premises deployments
Self-hosted Docker or virtual machine environments
Other supported hosting environments
Requested Capabilities
Snowflake support for Mendix runtime persistence.
Full CRUD support (Create, Read, Update, Delete) for Mendix entities.
Compatibility with domain models, associations, and microflows.
Support for runtime transactions, data consistency, and persistence operations.
Database configuration and deployment support through Mendix Studio Pro and relevant deployment tools.
Official documentation and production support.
Expected Benefits
Supporting Snowflake as a runtime database would enable organizations to:
Simplify application and data architectures.
Reduce data duplication and synchronization overhead.
Consolidate application data within existing Snowflake environments.
Minimize infrastructure and maintenance complexity.
Improve integration between Mendix applications and enterprise data platforms.
We recognize that Snowflake differs architecturally from traditional transactional databases and that additional compatibility considerations may be necessary.
Nevertheless, we believe this capability would provide significant value to organizations using Snowflake as their centralized data platform.
We would appreciate consideration of this feature in a future Mendix release, with support across deployment environments rather than being limited to a specific hosting configuration.
