This idea pushes for a Linux version of Mendix Studio Pro.

There was an earlier idea to have a Studio Pro for Linux and MacOS which Mendix considers implemented now that there is a MacOS version. That's not entirely the case though, and I'd even say entirely not.

In a speech for Mendix World some years ago it was revealed that Mendix' motto would continue to be to enable makers; well, free software enables those who can't afford licenses to learn Mendix and hire themselves out as developers
Linux is both free as in beer and free as in speech. It's also probably (way) more secure (in 2024 Microsoft admitted publicly in some federal US Committee that security could have been higher on their prio list, to say the least), resource friendly etc. It shouldn't be obligatory to either use an inferior OS or getting locked in in the OSX ecosystem
Linux is desktop usage is growing, esp. in e.g. India ( > 15% and way more than MacOS at 3%), but even in Europe it's > 3% and probably higher among tech savvy people like Mendix developers
There are several ominous developments around Windows. Just recent examples include ads in the os and the revealing of the Windows Recall addition where everything you do is going to be recorded in snapshots. We should not have to deal with this
It would give Mendix another nice edge over the competition like OutSystems, which also doesn't have a Linux version (yet?)

At this point Mendix Studio Pro is literally the only thing forcing me to use Windows.

Also, on a side note, if you need testers, I'm in.

I have it working as well, but not all the code is eligible for inclusion in upstream Wine. I am working on implementing the missing API's in a way that would allow me to submit them for inclusion in Wine though. Hopefully we can add Studio Pro to the winehq appdb.

I'd be interested in the work others have done on this already and see where we can cooperate.

I have a fully working setup for Studio Pro on Linux. Getting SP to run on wine is a bit tricky, but it works.

I'm willing to share all of it, but I need to check first how much I can publish without violating Mendix TOS. Give me a few days.

@Jeremy then please share any insights: wine version, extra libraries or dependencies, configuration, studio pro version, steps to make it work, etc. Maybe create a blog post or exchange about it.

In addition, Linux’s lower system overhead and efficient resource management could improve Studio Pro’s performance, especially on machines with limited resources.

Mendix Studio Pro is the ONLY windows app I use, and the ONLY reason I have a windows licence, which I really don't want to pay for
