Cannot search on text in assocations using a drop down filter

Grid 2 also does not allow you to use a drop down to search on text in associations. This, in addition to the search not allowing you to search down the tree is another important piece of functionality that is missing from grid2 that is a normal part of grid1. There doesn't appear to be any solution to these issues?
